At least, that's what the many documents sent to us by the publisher stated, warning us of various misfortunes if we failed to meet any deadline. So we faithfully delivered the script in June 2012, and provided all required corrections earlier this year. After announcing three different release dates, it seemed that the publisher had finally settled for August 28th. So we oriented our communication efforts towards this date, until Wednesday, August 28th was finally there!
And then... nothing. Amazon listed the book as "temporarily unavailable", and two days later the Schiffer website stated the book would be available in October.
We feel really sorry for the many readers who have already pre-ordered the book, and received this email from Amazon:
We're still trying to obtain the following item[s] you ordered on July 28, 2013 (Order# xxxxxxxxxxxx).
Olivier Bizet "Yankee Air Pirates: Command & Control, Tactical Control, Forward Air Control, Rescue, Electronic Warfare, Air Police/Security Police Vol. 1: U.S. Air Force Uniforms and Memorabilia of the Vietnam War"
Still want it? We'll keep on trying. To keep your order for this item open, please click the link below. Otherwise, we'll cancel your order on October 06, 2013, if we haven't located it by then.
Apparently, the publisher did not bother to warn Amazon (or us) that the book would be two months late, So we guess the communication job is up to us.
Dear readers, please keep the faith! We have foolishly given many release dates, probably losing a lot of credibility in the process, but the book does exist! François has received his advance copy in Bangkok, although I am still waiting for mine in Paris.
Behold our coveted offspring, taken under the bleak monsoon light of a Bangkok afternoon!
At this point, I would really enjoy screaming "It's aliiiiiive!" and burst into demonic laughter while lightnings strike in the background, but I guess that will have to wait until I get my own copy.
As you can see, it is a thick book, loaded with nice stuff about the collectibles we can't live without. Your wait is almost over, the book will be here next month (unless the printer employees go on strike, the warehouse goes up in flames or something to that effect).
Thanks for your continued support and we hope our next post will bring good news!
